Running Programmes

As a running coach Nina devises goal-orientated weekly running programmes. As these are designed specifically around individual goals, fitness levels and lifestyles she is able to accommodate both a wide age range and athletic capability. Whether you want to train for your first 5k race and have little or no running experience or are already an experienced runner who wishes to improve personal best times then Nina can help. These are full programmes which incorporate all running sessions together with all aspects of strength and conditioning work (so a full periodised gym programme) and include injury prevention work. It would be designed around individual goals, ability and time available.

Event Specific Strength and Conditioning Programmes

Nina devises individual event specific strength and conditioning programmes which can be incorporated into any training schedule. This type of programme would include all aspects of strength and conditioning, be periodised in coordination with running/season etc. and include injury prevention work. This training can substantially help to improve performance and plays a major role in reducing the chance of injury. It would be designed around individual goals, ability and time available. This type of programme might be suitable for a runner who is happy with their own running sessions and is looking for gym/conditioning work to compliment their running and enhance their performance.

Technical Drills

Nina's work as a running coach also includes the teaching of running drills. These are specific plyometric running exercises which, if performed correctly can serve a multitude of useful functions including improved performance and injury prevention. Drills will help to:-

  • Develop a more efficient running style
  • Increase power
  • Improve the speed and reactivity of foot strike (‘touches’) – the quicker an athlete can transfer their own body weight, the quicker they will run
  • Strengthen - in particular the muscles of the feet, calves and hips. This will greatly improve stabilisation and thus be a major contributory factor in injury reduction
  • Improve hip flexor strength and flexibility which will lead to higher knee lift and therefore increased range of stride

Athletes of all disciplines can benefit from performing drills

  • Nina works with injured runners who are unable to run (often in training for a particular race and with a set deadline e.g. London Marathon). She devises non-running event specific programmes during this period of injury and works closely with both the athlete and physio to allow them to be in the best shape they can be when they are able to return to running. This in turn gives them the best chance of achieving their goal and has proved to be a successful formula. If you are injured and looking for some help to get you through this period and try to get you to the start line then do email nina to see if she can help. This type of programme can be booked on an ad hoc basis at a cost of £45/week.
